Charlie Newman: Digital Media Trainee
"I am currently working at Academy Internet for my placement year. I am studying Computer Science at the University of Brighton; a placement year enables students to leave uni with a degree and a year’s relevant experience working in the real world. Working at Academy certainly gives me plenty of working challenges and variety within my role. With the whole team willing to offer as much help as needed¸ I have learnt many new skills and improved others, including web design, search engine optimisation, Photoshop and Flash. I look forward to completing the rest of my placement and the new skills and knowledge I will inevitably acquire. I highly recommend any students wanting to gain some experience to join the Academy Internet team, and feel proud to work for a vibrant, focused and empowering digital media agency."
Yanni Papaioannou, Internet Marketing Trainee
"I was one of the lucky people to be selected by Academy Internet where I successfully completed a 12 month placement. I have only positive things to say about my time there and the things I learnt. Not only is Academy Internet a growing company but it is also involved in a lot of different areas. Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation, Pay Per Click management and Web Design/Development are only a few of the things that I had the opportunity to do and learn but Academy Internet does so much more. e-Learning, graphic design, Flash animation and Training, among other things. Academy Internet is a true new media company where you can expect to take part in a lot of innovative projects and be involved in the latest developments in all these areas.
Another thing that I feel Academy Internet should be proud of is the working environment they have achieved. I never felt out of place and whenever I needed help, advice or support there was a team of people always willing to offer it. Within these 12 months I was able to learn and do a lot of things from the simplest tasks to Project Management and Consultancy and was given the opportunity and freedom to explore all the different areas where Academy Internet is involved thus getting the most out of my 12 months by receiving training on all aspects of Internet Marketing, e-Learning and Training. This was one of the best experiences of my life and I highly recommend this to any student looking to get something good out their placement year."
Graeme Benstead, Internet Marketing Consultant
"Since being accepted by Academy Internet as a graduate Internet Marketing Trainee I have been given an unequalled opportunity to grow and improve my personal and business skills.
From the very first day I was given responsibility for tasks which directly affected the business and throughout my time here I have felt that I am integral to the team. Although this direct responsibility has given me a busier schedule it has also meant that my tasks are more diverse and that I have more pride in my work.
I have received all the responsibility and the support I need to really enjoy my time here at Academy Internet so far and having been promoted to Internet Marketing Consultant I will be proud to continue growing with the business into the future."
Nikki Ashley, Learning and Training Specialist
"I have worked for a number of different companies, in different sectors and of different sizes.
Some have developed me. Some have recognised and valued my skills and experience. Some have given me the flexibility to achieve a strong work-life balance. Some have paid me commensurate with my experience and market value. Some of them have been great bosses and/or teams. Some have enabled me to achieve in new areas.
This is the first company, which has done all of these. Training is not a separate function within our company. It is integral to the way we work and do business. The more we learn new skills, the more we help the business to grow. The more the business grows, the more opportunity we have to develop new skills. It is a totally holistic and symbiotic environment. It is hard work, hugely rewarding and great fun!"
Bernardo Carvalho, Trainee Internet Marketing Consultant
“During my placement at Academy Internet I met people from all walks of life and had opportunities to attend meetings and events which were all new experiences for me.
Immediately after I joined Academy Internet I was granted my own desk and computer system, complete with the exact same peripherals and software as my line manager.
On my first week I attended a full induction program which has taught me a great deal about how the company works, and what would be my part as a member of the team. In addition, I have attended training courses which provided me with a certificate at the end, and I have been taken out for team meetings and social events.
All of my colleagues are amicable and very helpful despite the fact that they are extremely busy. I always feel comfortable to approach my managers in order to obtain help or guidance with any issues at work or relating to my studies.”
Jeremy Jacobs, Internet Marketing Consultant
"Recently after graduating from University I was successful in being invited to work at Academy Internet on their graduate training programme. I have work ed for a wide range of companies in my working life and have not had the opportunity to develop and grow as I have at Academy Internet. I have never been restricted in voicing my opinion or developing an area of my interest. My personal development plan has meant that I have been able to develop a career path that interests me and all my skills and knowledge have been utilised. I have found myself in a true learning environment, where every day we all learn a new skill or piece of information from one another.
The team are all working for the same end goal, and the level of support and commitment to one other is outstanding. It is evident that Academy Internet invests time in selecting their staff and this shows from the team dynamics; professional, supportive and fun are three words I would use to describe the team.
I always dreamt of a job I was happy to get out of bed in the morning for, I have found that working for Academy Internet."
