Viv is an e-learning instructional designer with over 10 years experience in all stages of the training cycle, especially with management skills, compliance and evaluation.  Training material that Viv has designed has been delivered worldwide and he has facilitated courses in 8 countries.  Clients include Baker Tilly, B&Q, Common Purpose, Deloitte, HSBC, Nationwide, Novartis, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Procter & Gamble,  Royal College of Nursing, Thus and Wolters Kluwer.

Viv's background as a psychologist and then as a Chartered Accountant means that his design style is highly memorable, practical, business-focused, informal and creative. Through the e-learning census he probably knows more than anyone about how e-learning is used in professional services firms in the UK.

The main areas in which Viv has led and designed learning interventions are:

  • Management skills - general people management and job-related skills e.g. appraisal skills, client management, delegation, marketing, motivation, presentations, report writing, time management
  • Train the Trainer - training for line managers who have responsibility for facilitating interactive and participative courses in the UK, Europe and Africa
  • Induction - creating e-learning that helps people settle into their new roles and rapidly start performing as envisaged
  • Compliance - breaking complex issues into easily digestible chunks and motivating learners to meet their continuing professional development requirements and change behaviour

Major achievements

  • Led the instructional design for over 200 modules on continuing professional development for qualified accountants.
  • Advised Deloitte on vendor selection and implementation issues for their largest custom-built e-learning project (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  • Remodelled Common Purpose's system for evaluating training courses and Board Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ran the first ever Train the Trainer course for Deloitte Africa.
  • Project managed and designed Deloitte's intranet-based self-managed learning toolkit.
